There are many over the counter sleep medications available. If you feel that these options aren't working, your doctor can write a prescription for a stronger sleep medication.

Ambien is a prescription medication used for relaxation and sleep. This medication is used by those who are unable to fall asleep, wake often during the night or wake early in the morning. This drug should only be used for seven to ten days. Those taking this medication should be closely monitored by a doctor and should not stop taking Ambien suddenly as withdrawal can occur.

Sonata is another short term sleep medication. This prescription drug should not be used for longer than ten day as it can become addictive. Talk to your doctor about possible side effects and drug interactions.
