Migraine MedicationMigraine headaches, most commonly occurring in women, are characterized by debilitating pain. Several migraine medications are available to help stop the migraine once it has begun. These include Imitrex, Zomig and Relpax. These are fast acting pain medications. Other medications can be taken to help prevent migraines. These migraine medications are useful for those who suffer more than one migraine a week. Beta-blockers and calcium channel blockers that are usually prescribed for high blood pressure fall into this category. Anti-seizure medications such as Neurontin and Depakote are also used to prevent migraines.
